Learn Like A Pirate - Chapter #1 - What is a student-led classroom?
If you were one of my readers last summer you may remember how much fun I had participating in book groups with some of my special teacher friends. This summer will be more of the same, but with some AMAZING new texts. This happens to be one that I read about last summer, but never bought for myself, so when the sweet Amanda from The Primary Gal decided to use it for her book group - I knew that I needed to be apart of it.
We will be posting weekly on Thursday - one chapter at a time, so it would be great for you to join in with us - either reading along with our posts or reading the book too. I for one would LOVE to hear what you have to say!!
The first chapter speaks about the teacher who wants to do more for her students and her/his classroom. Is always learning and creating and doing...that's me. However, it goes on to talk about something amazing - a student led classroom.
I know my classroom forces kids to become independent (or as independent as they are ready for in first grade), but I also know that what this author is talking about being student-led is not where I am. I've got some learning to do...
But I'm up for it! Bring it on chapter 2 - Common Concerns about Student-Led Classroom!
I'm ready too! I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI feel that my kids are very independent as well. Prior to reading this, I was proud of their independence. However, I'm seeing that I still have a long way to go in going from independence on tasks that I assign them to being student-led! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to learn more throughout this book study, can't wait to hear your thoughts too!
