Classroom reveal time!!

I am SUPER excited to share what my room looks like finally!  I feel like I have been in and out tweeking and making changes forever!  The kiddos arrive on Tuesday, but I was able to have almost all of them in for our Meet-and-Greet yesterday which went SO well.  Only 3 kiddos couldn’t make it – That’s a record for me!!
So....
HERE's my ROOM!!

This is my classroom door.  I am using an owl theme this year, so I found this on TPT. It is editable and I could add all of the kiddos names!!  I would have taken a picture of their lockers too, except the lockers are being blocked by furniture.  Why?  You ask?  Because they are building a wall to separate a classroom - and when would be a good time to start this?  Why yes the week before school starts! LOL!

This is the opposite side of the door.  On here you will see my schedule and line order and then this laminated chart where I write the day's objectives.

I am SO OCD sometimes.  And here is a prime example.  This is the next week prepared books, work, lesson plans, etc. (because I can't leave anything to the last minute - though of course I will change things as I go.)

This will be my word wall.  It's on the list for the weekend to get everyone's names up there.  Let's just hope I can get the HUBS' computer back up and running since he is the only one who can connect to the printer!  This is also my math alphabet.  Setting up a math environment too!

This table is currently my "Extra" table, but will be put to use soon since as I was leaving yesterday I got my 23rd student.  For the Meet-and-Greet I set out my wish list on cupcakes and left a "ready confetti" treat for the kids to take home for Monday night!

I'm not sure if your school is the same, but for many of my kids the way they go home on the first day of school is TOTALLY different than the way they head home every other day.  This year I am trying to be organized about it and I am asking in advance!

Calendar board is RTG!

Book area (this is only 1/2) is now outfitted with Cupcake for the Teacher library labels!

Names are all ready for math and literacy groups to start soon!

JOBS!

Table set up!  Using cups inside the caddies to help kids stay organized.

Got this b-day board at Lakeshore and NOT in love with it at all, but I am living with it until I can make one better...

Games are stored in pretty boxes!

Thanks for visiting my classroom - Hop on over to The Primary Gal to see some more classroom makeovers!!

Teaching With Intention - Chapter 2

Another week has gone by!  Can you believe it?
I head back to school on Tuesday with a whole new set of kiddos.  I LOVED last year's class, so I am really missing them!  However, I am excited about the newest crop!  I will be sharing some FINAL room pics with y'all later this week! But for now, I am linking up with Amanda from The Primary Gal for week #2 of our Teaching With Intention book study!

This week was all about what me as a teacher believe and think about teaching and learning.  So much of the things we are presented with as teachers are DO THIS or HERE'S A NEW CURRICULUM -GO.  It really spoke to me when Debbie Miller spoke about what we really believe about teaching.

Her example listed 6 beliefs she created. She wrote about shaping these ideas over time based on notes kept at the end of the day for a few months and finding themes.  I really want to try this...

Then more work...matching beliefs and practices.  Really thinking about what your beliefs are and matching each and EVERYTHING you do to one of the beliefs.  And (here's the hard part) stopping the practice if it does not match your belief.  Sometimes letting go of something you LOVE to do can be hard, but hopefully I am up for the challenge!

Next week we will be talking about setting up your classroom - I will have already completed the set up, but maybe I will find out some changes will be needed ;)

August SLANT box - Hometowns

When you hear hometowns, do you automatically think The Bachelor?  Well sadly, I do.  That is one guilty pleasure that I started watching when I was home on maternity leave and now I can't stop!!

Anyway...This is not Bachelor related!

I was lucky enough to participate in the SLANT box exchange again this month!!!

This month I was paired with a worldly educator who has lived in Hawaii, Florida, and now in Virginia.  Thanks to her thoughtfulness, I was sent a box of SUNSHINE (FL themed) goodies and my little one even got a treat too!

Check out what Nicole sent...
She was also SWEET enough to send a little something for my little lady - silly putty. Which she LOVES!!!

Want to sign up for next month?  The theme is TEACHER VOICE... Click HERE!

Hurry, hurry - submissions close soon!!

Teaching With Intention Book Study - Chapter 1

Happy August!

I am guessing many of you are back teaching already!  I have been working in my room (and at home!),  but am taking a few days to spend with my family at the beach before I need to head back.  Of course in true teacher style I have 2 bags filled with back-to-school projects that I am working on!

I LOVE the Guided Math book study we completed over the summer.  It really changed the way Mel and I look at math and the way we are teaching this year.  We are SO SO excited!  So, when my dear friend Amanda from The Primary Gal mentioned she was starting another book group, I JUMPED at the chance.

This time we are reading Teaching With Intention by Debbie Miller.  This is a new text for me, so I will be reading each chapter along with you each week and I will be writing about my thoughts and ideas as we go.  I also would LOVE to hear your ideas too!!

The first chapter was so lovely.  It is a story about a visit Debbie made to a school who made her miss the classroom because this classroom was set up for learning, for student independence.  It was truly a place a learning.  I want to visit this room!  I can only hope my room looks and feels a little bit like this as I create a new classroom community!

I am looking forward to sharing more as we go.  Have you read this book?  Did you like it?  I would love to hear what you think as we begin!
